Formaldehyde 37%, commonly known as formalin, is a concentrated aqueous solution of formaldehyde widely used as an industrial and laboratory chemical. It is commonly supplied as a clear, colourless liquid and may contain methanol as a stabilizer to reduce polymerization. Formaldehyde is used in the manufacture of resins, adhesives, wood products and other chemicals, as well as in selected laboratory, preservation, disinfection and industrial applications. Chemical name: Formaldehyde (Methanal) | Formula: CH₂O | CAS No.: 50-00-0 | Concentration: approximately 37% | Physical form: clear liquid. Some commercial 37% solutions contain approximately 5–15% methanol as stabilizer, so the exact composition should be verified against the supplier specification. Formaldehyde is highly hazardous, including toxic and carcinogenic properties, and the 37% solution is also corrosive and highly flammable; handling, storage and transport must strictly follow the product SDS and applicable regulations.
